ANC Financial Reports Show Wide Variation in Spending and Saving
2008 Quarterly Reports Available
from DC Auditor

The 2008 financial reports filed by the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) in Ward 5 show different levels of spending and saving.

In 2008, the total expenses excluding grants of ANC 5A, 5B and 5C were $14,588, $9,507 and $3,322 respectively (see table at right). ANC 5C awarded $23,069 in community grants. ANC 5A and 5B did not award any grants in 2008.

ANC 5C keeps expenses low by not renting office space and by not hiring secretarial help. ANC 5B uses donated office space and pays for secretarial assistance. ANC 5A maintains an office trailer on the grounds of Slowe Elementary School and does not hire secretarial help.

Currently, ANC 5A and 5B have close to $50,000 in their bank accounts. ANC 5C has approximately $170,000 in savings.

ANCs in Ward 5 receive approximately $36,000 per year from the DC government for office expenses and community grant-giving.

ANCs are required to file quarterly financial reports with the DC auditor.
