To the Editor:

On the issue of moving the Brentwood fire house [Brookland Heartbeat May/Jun 08], here are the facts:

1. At Mr. Li’s community meeting the Fire Dept. said only that “response time” was the reason for moving.

2. Mr. Li proved response time would not be reduced from the new proposed location.

3. I stated at the 5B ANC meeting that response time would be reduced for those east of the station and increased for us who are on the west side.

4. The true reason for the move is to make things quieter for potential condo dwellers in the new Brookland Square next door.

5. Response time, historic preservation, and renovation are all just lame excuses for wasting $7 million to give special treatment to Brookland Square.

6. The community needs attention given to a lot of unfinished business, such as moving Brentwood DMV to a more sensible location, closing the health hazard BFI trash transfer station, and reducing rush hour traffic back-ups at R.I. Ave Metro Station (this would help Fire Dept. response time).
