Brookland House and Garden Tour Showcases Local Homes
8th Annual Tour Called “Best Ever”

The 8th annual Brookland House and Garden Tour was successful yet again in attracting people from near and far to take an intimate look at a selection of Brookland’s unique houses and gardens.

Via Carpenter, whose home was featured on the tour, called the event “excellent, excellent, excellent.” Ms. Carpenter’s 3-storey house drew oohs and aahs as participants admired the elegant renovations and designer furnishings.

Jeff Wilson, president of the Greater Brookland Garden Club, said that more than 300 tickets were sold for the event.

“It was the most well-run tour we have had,” said Mr. Wilson. “We had a very well-organized group of people committed to the quality and variety,” of the homes and gardens, Mr. Wilson said.

Mr. Wilson posted the financial results of the tour on the Brookland listserv. Income from the event was $3,962 and profit was $2,333. Mr. Wilson said that proceeds “will go to support a collaborative effort underway to supply watering bags to newly planted street trees.”

Dark clouds threatened the event at one point. Fortunately they merely cooled things off before drifting away. Not a drop of rain fell, much to everyone’s relief.

At the conclusion of the event, participants gathered at the home of Jeff Wilson and Alvin Truesdale for refreshments. Neighbors enjoyed home made treats, grilled hotdogs, beer and wine.

“It’s just getting better and better,” said Brenda Fields, who has been attending since the first tour.

Sarah Lucas, owner of Petals Ribbons and Beyond, relaxed with a freshly grilled hotdog at the reception. “This is one of the most appreciated activities that happens in Brookland,” she said, adding that there is a side benefit: “going on the tour encourages you to do a little ‘something-something’ to your home.”
